건축물이 위치한 제주 대포동은 전면으로 바다가 보이고, 뒷편으로 한라산이 보이는 지형적으로 대단히 특별한 위치를 가지고 있습니다.

건축가는 이 건축물이 2개의 기능을 완벽히 수행하기를 바랬습니다. 첫번째 1층 카페에서는 다양한 사람들의 만남들이 형성되는 곳입니다. 이곳에서는 회사 직원들이 휴가를 위해서 제주도에 왔을 때 바다를 보면서 따뜻한 차 한잔을 할 수 있는 배려의 장소입니다.

두번째 2층은 직원들의 숙소 및 건축주의 어머님이 생활할수 있는 주거공간입니다.

건축가는 이 공간에서 2개의 각기 다른 동선과 사용자의 목적성을 어떻게 하면 구별하면서도 같은 공간을 공유하게 할수 있을지에 대해서 고민하였습니다. 결국 1층에서의 공유된 공간과 2층에서의 구별된 공간은 하나의 건축물안에서 하나의 방향성으로 향하게 됩니다.

외부 1층은 제주 자연에서 흔히 볼수 있는 화산석 패널을 그리고 2층에는 자연에서 채취할수 있는 건축재료인 롱브릭을 사용함으로서 이 건물이 결코 자연과는 배척되지 않음을 보여주려고 하였습니다. 1층 인테리어 공간에서는 커다란 창으로 따스한 햇볓이 유입되고, 직원들이 이곳에서 여유를 만끽할수 있게 디자인되었고, 2층 공간은 포근한 자연의 재료인 목재를 전반적으로 사용해서 따뜻한 주거의 목적성을 분명히 하였습니다.

The building is situated in Daepo-dong, Jeju, which has a unique geographical location with the sea in the front and Hallas Mountain in the back.
The architects aimed for the building to serve two distinct functions effectively. The first floor houses a cafe where people from various walks of life can gather. It is a thoughtful space where employees of the company can relax with a warm cup of tea while enjoying the view of the sea during their vacation on Jeju Island. The second floor serves as a residential space for employees and the owner's mother.

The architect considered how to differentiate between two different traffic flows and user functions in the same space. Ultimately, the shared space on the first floor and the distinct space on the second floor have a unified direction within the same building.
We aimed to demonstrate that this building is integrated with nature by using volcanic stone panels, which are commonly found in Jeju's natural environment, on the first-floor exterior, and utilizing long bricks, a building material that can be sourced from nature, on the second floor. The interior space on the first floor was designed to allow warm sunlight to enter through large windows and provide a relaxing environment for employees, while the second-floor space was designed to emphasize the concept of warm housing by incorporating wood, a cozy natural material, throughout.
